Senior School – developing pathways
Your child will undertake specialised learning in areas of choice that provide a pathway to university and work.
Enrolments are now being accepted for our Senior School, which will open on September 7, 2008 and includes students from Grade 11 to 13. Grade 11 enrolments will be considered for 2008 where the student has previously studied the Victorian curriculum.
Grade 11 learning program
Beginning Grade 11 is an important step for students as it represents their entry point into an adult learning environment, where excellence and innovation in learning and teaching continue to be prized.
The Grade 11 program, which has strong links to Grade 12 and 13 curriculam, will see your child focus on special interest areas and develop a pathway to further university/college study and work.
Students will study all of the subjects of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS)
(link to Curriculum anchor under Our Learning Approach) through English, mathematics, science and humanities (history, geography and economics) learning programs. Here, the focus is on developing a deep understanding of key themes and ideas. Your child will continue to study languages along with health and physical education. At this point, they can also select an elective arts subject from the Visual Arts and/or the Performing Arts in preparation for related Grade 12 and 13 subjects.
An important feature of the Grade 11 program is that all students will have the opportunity to accelerate their senior studies by undertaking a Victorian Certificate of Education subject, for completion by the end of Grade 12.
Grades 12 and 13 learning program – the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
In Grade 12 and 13, your child will undertake the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), a competitive, internationally recognised secondary qualification.
The VCE is recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework and designed to be completed by students over a minimum of two years. The VCE qualification provides a rigorous pathway to further university/college study and the world of work.
During these years, your child will undertake a range of accredited VCE subjects tailored to their own specific educational and vocational needs.
In Grade 12, the study of English is compulsory. Students choose six other VCE subjects that are appropriate to their goals in further education, life and work.
In Grade 13, the study of English is still compulsory and students will choose four VCE subjects which are in most cases the subjects they commenced in Grade 12.
During these two years, your child will also be allocated time to undertake private study or tuition required to meet the rigorous demands of the VCE.
